An established leader in the legal and licensing communities, Jonathan Faber has developed a unique intellectual property, licensing and consulting practice. He has worked on behalf of some of the biggest brands, businesses and personalities in the world, and has collaborated with countless manufacturers, advertising agencies, music publishers, and media companies. In addition to his role with McNeely Stephenson Thopy & Harrold, Jonathan also serves as the founder and CEO of Luminary Group LLC, a full-service licensing and consulting agency based in Indianapolis.
Prior to joining the firm, Jonathan was a Partner with Sommer Barnard PC, where he was Chair of the Licensing Group and a member of the Intellectual Property and Business Groups. Before Sommer Barnard, Jonathan served for almost ten years with CMG Worldwide, where he was the President of the company. His clients included Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, Babe Ruth, Chuck Berry, Sophia Loren, Mike Piazza, Jackie Robinson, the Vatican Library, Bettie Page, INY, the Girls Next Door, Buddy Holly, the Hollywood Sign on the Hill, and Princess Diana. Before CMG, Jonathan worked for a joint venture between Atlantic Records and Time Warner, where he participated in projects involving the Looney Tunes characters, Bump in the Night, Sweet Valley High, and the Power Rangers.
Jonathan is the professor of Licensing Intellectual Property at Indiana University School of Law in Bloomington, and the professor and creator of The Right of Publicity at Indiana University School of Law--Indianapolis, the first course in the country dedicated exclusively to this complex topic. He is a frequent guest speaker at events, programs and legal symposiums throughout the country, as well as providing interviews and commentary for various media outlets and programming such as ESPN and BBC. He also is a frequent contributor to business and licensing publications, and serves as a consultant or expert witness in complex litigation throughout the United States. For example, Jonathan recently assisted founding Motley Crue member Nikki Sixx win a substantial jury award, which was televised by Court TV. He also assisted a Grammy-Award winning band win a seven figure arbitration award against a leading big-box retailer.
Jonathan is active in the local and licensing community, serving on various boards and dedicating considerable time speaking to students on the undergraduate, JD, MBA and LLM level throughout the country.
